Fantasy Outlook: Cam Newton

Cam Newton signed a one-year deal with the New England Patriots on Sunday evening What should you expect from 2015 MVP quarterback? Quarterback Cam Newton signed a one-year-deal with the New England Patriots worth up to $7.5 million, per league sources who told ESPN's Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter . After suffering several injuries over the last couple seasons, including a Lisfranc injury that cost the quarterback 14 games last year, the Patriots have found their answer under center. It’s important to note that learning the Patriots playbook has been notoriously difficult and given the late timing of this signing I would follow reports out of New England very closely over the coming months to see if Newton is even ready for Week 1. Newton certainly provides an upgrade over 2019 fourth-round pick Jarrett Stidham or journeyman quarterback Bryan Hoyer and provides a small ray of hope to all those fantasy owners with New England pieces. The 2015 MVP finds himself right back i...

Week 5 DraftKings Cash & Tournament Plays

Michael Thomas' price has dropped significantly since Weeks 2 and 3 ($8,000 and $7,400, respectively), but, let's not forget, people, he's still Michael Thomas. He's going to go overlooked in GPPs this week, which means ... FIRE HIM UP!  Tournaments are the best, aren't they? They're far more fun when it comes to lineup building, projecting ownership and taking shots on some of the guys who you know have immense upside. Obviously, it's my preferred style of DFS play, despite my gills coming out in full force and fishing my way out of my Week 4 run at winning a GPP. That's the glory of DFS. If you make a mistake in any given week, it's not reflected in the slates or weeks to follow. Unlike seasonal fantasy football, where one bad decision or trade can send your season into a tailspin. Thankfully, no blunders have been made in any season-long leagues I play in ... yet. But you didn't come here for season-long talk. You came for the g...

Week 5 DraftKings Picks, Fades & Stacks

This about sums up the way I felt after forgetting to swap T.Y. Hilton out of my  lineup that was about 30 points off from winning a GPP that would've been a $20,000 payday. It happened.  I had a chance to win a GPP in Week 4. One of my few tournament lineups I played scored 200.8 points, and placed me 394th out of 297,265 entrants in the $250K First Down.  Not a great win, but it's usually not a HORRIBLE position to finish in like it was for me this weekend.  After the For Fantasy Sake live show -- 10-11:30 a.m. on QCSportsNet.com at Kavanaugh's Hilltop Bar & Grill ... #ShamelessPlug -- I was rushing home so my lovely significant other could get out the door to teach a one-on-one dance solo to one of her students.  During that very same For Fantasy Sake show -- did you see the links above? you need to see the links above -- we went through the gambit of actives and inactives. During that segment, we confirmed T.Y. Hilton was, in fact...

Week 4 DraftKings Cash & Tournament Plays

Leonard Fournette saw 100 percent of the backfield snaps in his Week 3 game. He's only putting up 13 DraftKings points per game, but has yet to find his way into the end zone. With volume like that, when he finally scores a touchdown, it's going to be a massive week ... and I think this is the one.  Week 3 was FIRE. It seemed like all the buttons I pressed were the right ones. Mike Evans was going off. Jameis Winston looked good. Christian McCaffrey was the man. Keenan Allen put up a 40-burger. It legitimately seemed like every lineup I had went bonkers. The only problem? So did everyone else's. So, if you were playing on DraftKings.com in Week 3 and didn't score at least 175+ ... you might need to delete your account. Because even a fish like me managed to come close to the 200-point mark. Granted, not all weeks will be so fruitful in the 40-burger department. With a couple of teams on bye in Week 4 -- it's the Jets and 49ers, so, I mean, is it re...

Week 3 DraftKings Picks, Fades & Stacks

There's going to be a lot of this going on this Sunday in Dallas.Ezekiel Elliott gets to eat up the awful Miami defense, and it's going to be awesome for fantasy players. There's no good way to sum up Week 2 for me, other than thanking the Kansas City Chiefs for being an offensive juggernaut and allowing me to scrape back most of what I lost on the Seahawks-Steelers stacks I ran out. God bless you Patrick Mahomes and Demarcus Robinson.  And you, too, Pats DST.  We're not going for a long soliloquy, this week. We're going to get down to it. The Plays Ezekiel Elliott, RB, $8,900 (vs. Miami) D-O-L-P-H-I-N-S ... what's that spell ...?  If you guessed Dolphins, your'e wrong. Clearly it spells fantasy yum yum. The dumpster fire that is the Miami Dolphins defense is just bleeding points to everyone. Somehow, they're not yielding the most fantasy goodness to opposing running backs, but I expect that to change after this week. Th...

Week 3 Waiver Wire: How to replace Brees & Big Ben

Many fantasy owners are feeling the blow of losing Ben Roethlisberger and Drew Brees, but don't just assume you need to rush to pick up their replacements. There are PLENTY of better options.  There were some serious blows dealt during Sunday's action. It wasn't enough that the quarterback I was on since I saw the matchup with Seattle ( Ben Roethlisberger ) blew out his elbow and is requiring season-ending surgery, but fantasy stalwart Drew Brees had to go and tear  ligaments in his hand the required surgery and HE'S out for about six weeks. Like a bad infomercial ... Steelers running back James Conner left Sunday's game as well, however, test results revealed "nothing serious," according to Jeremy Fowler. Devin Singletary tweaked his hamstring and was forced from the game against the Giants -- he had six carries for 57 yards and TD before exiting. Michael Gallup injured his knee during Sunday's route of Washington and will miss 2-4...

Week 3 DraftKings Pricing First Glance

Upon first glance, Marlon Mack seems to be one the best running back plays on the slate -- and at a great value.   My. God. What a brutal weekend.

Bucs-Panthers Preview: Is it safe to start Cam & Jameis?

Cam Newton and Jameis Winston looked like hot garbage in Week 1. The pair combined for just 12.5 fantasy points. On a short week, they play against each other. So, the question is, can we start either of them?   Let's start this off with the question we actually want to ask both Cam Newton and Jameis Winston after their, let's just call it, grotesque, Week 1 performances. WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?!? Cam: 239 yards, -2 rushing yards 1 INT, 1 fumble lost ... 5.4 fantasy points Jameis: 194 yards, 13 rushing yards, 3 INTs, 2 fumbles ... 7.1 fantasy points 🤢🤢🤢 OK. Now that we've got that out of out system, the real question is: Are we starting Cam or Jameis in Week 2? The answer is a bit convoluted when it comes to Winston. Much of your decision depends on your roster. You might have another option. Chances are, if you drafted Winston, you knew going into the season the floor for Winston was a four-interception, two-fumble game resulting in being benched. I...

To-Do List: Trade Antonio Brown; Trade for Cam Newton

We likely saw Cam Newton's worst game of the season in Week 1, so now is the  perfect time to go make a trade offer to buy him while he's cheap.   It's hard to not fall victim to the overreaction theater that is the NFL after just one week. You've waited so long for the season to finally be back, put in tons of hours researching and reading -- hopefully my stuff, because, let's face it, these takes are fire -- all the news on your players, so it feels like you know EVERYTHING. I'm here to tell you: You don't. So making trades after one week of action ... not always the best thing to do. But if you're itching to pull the trigger on a deal and need your trade fix, here are three options to trade FOR, and three options to trade AWAY. Trade For Cam Newton, QB, Carolina Panthers We probably saw Cam’s worst game of 2019. He didn’t look good at all. Granted, I’m not a big believer in drafting QBs high or trading much away for them, but I think...

Week 2 Waiver Wire: Who you need to be adding

Buffalo Bills wide receiver John Brown is a must-add after Week 1. Not only does he have huge-play ability, but he's getting volume now with a quarterback in Josh Allen who isn't afraid to chuck it deep to him.  The overarching theme of Week 1 -- other than the ridiculous performances from a few guys -- was, undoubtedly, injuries. And with lots of injuries, comes even more waiver wire action. If you follow the For Fantasy Sake Facebook page , you'd know all of  the key injuries and what some of the outlooks for those players are. If you don't, tough, I'm not going over all of the injuries here, pal. Go give us a follow and keep up with the news. Now that we've got the shameless plugging out of the way -- nah, brah, I'm not above that -- let's get to the options you should be looking at to fill those voids on your roster. Go Get 'Em Tyrell Williams, WR, Oakland Raiders – 63% owned With Antonio Brown out of Oakland – how fun was it ...

OMG! TODD GURLEY IS DUST! ... and more from overreaction Monday

Another woeful game for Todd Gurley signifies he is as good as done. That and more in our overreaction Monday.  Lamar Jackson is the best quarterback in football. Todd Gurley is done. Forever. And Sammy Watkins outscored Julio Jones, Odell Beckham Jr., Adam Thielin and Tyreek Hill ... COMBINED ! Of course, this is all tongue in cheek. ... right? Bruh. It's absolutely tongue in cheek. I mean, come on, Week 1 isn't even 24 hours old. For the purposes of this column, we're going to have some fun and dive into some of the most overreaction things you'll hear across the fantasy landscape after just one game played. Todd Gurley is dust. It's over for him.  Over his last six games played, Gurley has only managed to average 55.5 yards on the ground and 19.2 on 2.8 receptions per game; and, according to my math, that's a shade under 10 points per game. Now, we find out he's being usurped near the goal line by Malcom Brown -- as evidenced by him s...

First look at Week 2 DraftKings pricing

If I told you Sammy Watkins would be the highest-scoring player on the DraftKings  main slate on Sunday, you wouldn't have believed me.  Hell, I wouldn't have even believed me. But he was.  So with an early look at DK pricing, who will be this week's Watkins? If you followed some of the Week 1 DraftKings plays suggested like, say, Sammy Watkins, Lamar Jackson and DeSean Jackson, you just won all the money. But, uh, you know, just forget about the Tevin Coleman, Cam Newton and Todd Gurley calls. Although Week 1 isn't officially in the books, the lovely people at DraftKings always put out the coming-week's pricing before Monday night games.  Every Monday, we'll have a preliminary look at the next week's DK prices and list a handful of players who stick out based on matchup, price, injury news, etc.  Again, this is for the DraftKings Sunday main slate ONLY. So don't go asking about Thursday or Monday guys. Because, guess what? Not answ...

How to handle the Antonio Brown situation

Following this Antonio Brown debacle has been ... interesting to say the very least. But what do you do with him if you drafted him? Chances are, if you drafted Antonio Brown, you've been following along with the never-ending saga that's been playing out in Oakland. Even if you faded Brown in drafts, it's like a train wreck ... you. just. can't. look. away.  Let's recap this hot mess of an offseason for Brown:  Frostbitten feet Filed a grievance about his helmet Said he wouldn't play without wearing his old helmet Sat out of preseason practices Showed back up to camp Sent the discipline letter he received out on social media Issues emotional apology ... and it was accepted Was fined more than $250K and his $29M guaranteed was revoked Demanded he be released ... via Instagram Raiders hit him with the nah wave and released him And the latter four all happened in a matter of hours. It's been a hell of a last 48 hours. God bles...

Week 1 DFS Chalk & Tournament Plays

Damien Williams was the preseason darling -- keyword WAS -- before LeSean McCoy was signed by Kansas City. With one of the biggest game totals on the board, Damien Williams will likely be the lowest-owned Chiefs player, and could be one of the best tournament plays on the entire slate.  Lineup building can be somewhat tough in Week 1. There's an overabundance of information on every player, and every tout everywhere seems to find a way to love every player. Some silly writer went a little long in his previous iteration, and his editors told him to cut it down a tad. Also known as ... his girlfriend wasn't exactly thrilled when she found out how much time he'd be spending in front of a keyboard. Not to worry, y'all. No way she reads this. Or, if she does, she won't have even read down this far. Caitlyn, if you are, in fact reading this ... I ... I ... I love you? I'll mow the grass later. And that's a promise. For the purposes of this co...

Your Guide to DFS Week 1

Chris Carson has the perfect storm to make him one of the best  plays on the entire DFS slate in Week 1.  The news broke a few months ago that sports betting and -- more importantly -- daily fantasy was going to be legalized in the lovely state of Iowa. Allegedly, they were both to be ready to roll by the start of the NFL season. Fast forward to, well, right now, and we're sitting with only ONE of those being legalized. Not sure if you noticed, but the NFL season started Thursday. Way to go, Iowa. Or DraftKings. Or government.  I don't know who the hell to blame, so I'll blame them all.  TRIGGERED!  Breathe in. Breathe out. Breathe in. Breathe out.  Okay. We're good now. ... Still triggered. But good enough to move on.  You came here for the DFS plays -- though I'm not sure what the actual F you're doing listening to me -- so let's outline how this ditty is going down each week.  How it's going to wo...
