To-Do List: Trade Antonio Brown; Trade for Cam Newton

We likely saw Cam Newton's worst game of the season in Week 1, so now is the perfect time to go make a trade
offer to buy him while he's cheap.  


It's hard to not fall victim to the overreaction theater that is the NFL after just one week. You've waited so long for the season to finally be back, put in tons of hours researching and reading -- hopefully my stuff, because, let's face it, these takes are fire -- all the news on your players, so it feels like you know EVERYTHING.

I'm here to tell you: You don't.

So making trades after one week of action ... not always the best thing to do. But if you're itching to pull the trigger on a deal and need your trade fix, here are three options to trade FOR, and three options to trade AWAY.

Trade For

Cam Newton, QB, Carolina Panthers

We probably saw Cam’s worst game of 2019. He didn’t look good at all. Granted, I’m not a big believer in drafting QBs high or trading much away for them, but I think you’re trying to get him at such a depressed cost, it’s worth a look here. Don’t go wild trying to swing a deal for him, because, chances are the with the dept at the QB position, the guy you have is at least OK.

Aaron Jones, RB, Green Bay Packers

Jones soared up the boards everywhere this offseason and carried an average draft position of early Round 3. There were some questions surrounding the Green Bay backfield as preseason went on, including would Jones be healthy enough to handle a full workload? After the Week 1 performance he had, I can only imagine owners are feeling a little bit sour on him. However, the Bears have one of the best defenses in the league, so what did you expect really? Plus, Thursday games are kind of weird for offense anyway, we’ve seen that before. If you can find a way to pry him loose for pennies on the dollar, I think it’s worth a shot – getting a piece of that Green Bay offense is never a bad idea.  

Nick Chubb, RB, Cleveland Browns

Chubb’s 17-carry game that ended with 75 yards clearly wasn’t what we expected. In fact, the whole Browns offense wasn’t what we expected. That entire game against the Titans was just weird. I’m not sure I’m buying much of anything we saw, save for one: Baker Mayfield’s injured hand. That’s a real takeaway that we can do something with. Mayfield’s thumb looked to be impacted somewhat drastically – those three picks in the fourth …  ooof! So if Mayfield is, in fact, nicked up, the easiest thing to do is hand it off to a quality back. Chubb’s just that, despite barely breaking the double-digit point barrier and having his touchdown vultured


Derrick Henry's trade value may never be higher than it is right now. 
Try to parlay his late-season explosion from a year ago with his big
game from Week 1 and get a true fantasy stud for your roster. 

Trade Away

Antonio Brown, WR, New England Patriots

Let’s start with a guy who I think you should be looking to trade AWAY. The consensus on Brown all offseason was that elite production was likely to be coming to a slow end for him since he’d be with the woeful Derek Carr and Oakland Raiders. But, my, oh, my, how the script has flipped. Now he’s a member of the New England Patriots – who just ROLLED the Steelers in a primetime game and Brady looked good in that game. The value on Brown is likely the highest it will be all season, so you should cash in while the gettin’s good. It wouldn’t hurt to try to check in on any of these receivers who had lackluster Week 1s: Julio Jones, Davante Adams, Mike Evans and Odell Beckham Jr. to see if you can swoop in and buy low on those elite-level wideouts. 

Derrick Henry, RB, Tennessee Titans

I think this just might be my hatred for Henry. He’s burned so many people so many times before. The tail end of last year was incredible, don’t get me wrong, but he was NEVER that guy before that short stretch. In Week 1, he boosted his numbers with a 75-yard TD reception and finished as the No. 3-scoring running back. His limited role as a pass-catcher in the past should be indicative that it’s likely not going to be much going forward. So, if you own him, start shopping him now after this week and try to parlay the end of last year plus the massive start to 2019 and get yourself a more sure-thing running back.  

Alshon Jeffery, WR, Philadelphia Eagles

It feels like Jeffery is just that wideout who makes you say “meh” every time you talk about him. He doesn’t excite you. You’ll never have a full-blown pants-off moment with Jeffery. Maybe that’s part of why I never own him in any league. Or, it could be that I just don’t think he’s that good. Yeah, I hear you in the back saying, “But he scored 22 fantasy points last week, man, what the heck?!” it’s true he did. But how did he get there? Well, he somehow got a carried from the 2-yard-line and scored. He received only 16 percent of the team’s market share of air yards (56 total air yards) and six targets. With Carson Wentz definitely keying in on Zach Ertz and loving his new toy DeSean Jackson, it just doesn’t seem like it gets any better for Jeffrey from here. Shop him now, because you probably got the best game he’ll have all season.

Week 3 Waiver Wire: How to replace Brees & Big Ben

Many fantasy owners are feeling the blow of losing Ben Roethlisberger and Drew Brees,but don't just assume you need to rush to pick up their replacements. There are PLENTY of better options.  There were some serious blows dealt during Sunday's action. It wasn't enough that the quarterback I was on since I saw the matchup with Seattle ( Ben Roethlisberger ) blew out his elbow and is requiring season-ending surgery, but fantasy stalwart Drew Brees had to go and tear  ligaments in his hand the required surgery and HE'S out for about six weeks. Like a bad infomercial ... Steelers running back James Conner left Sunday's game as well, however, test results revealed "nothing serious," according to Jeremy Fowler. Devin Singletary tweaked his hamstring and was forced from the game against the Giants -- he had six carries for 57 yards and TD before exiting.
