Week 9 DraftKings Cash & Tournament Plays

If James Conner is ruled out this week, it might be pertinent to lock Jaylen Samuels in every lineup at $4,000.

With news still yet to drop about James Conner's status after sustaining a shoulder injury, the week's biggest question hangs in the balance.

Will James Conner sit and allow us to play all the Jaylen Samuels at $4,000?

The slate is starved for value and, it's likely if Conner does sit, Samuels is going to be the most popular play on the slate.

With the top-tier running backs being so expensive -- Christian McCaffrey is $10K and Dalvin Cook is $9.5K -- their ownership levels will be directly correlated to Conner's status.

The most-common build will be to use Samuels in order to fit in one of those expensive options. So, should the news break that Conner is out, expect McCaffrey and Cook to draw more ownership, which puts you in the position of two things:

  • How many shares of Jaylen Samuels do I play?
  • How much McCaffrey and Cook do I want?
The answers to those two questions will likely be what defines the slate -- especially in tournaments.

For me, if Samuels plays, I'm leaning toward trying to get overweight on the field. So, if he's looking like he'll come in at 30 percent owned or so, I'd ideally be double that ownership -- so about 60-70 percent.

So how much McCaffrey or Cook will I play? In tournaments ... I haven't fully decided yet. If the top-end RBs draw more clicks in lineups, I'll likely go another direction. I'll find a way to play mid-range backs or pay down a little bit from the top-priced guys, and spend elsewhere at receiver or tight end to differentiate my lineups that way.

Either way, keep your eyes open on Twitter for news regarding Conner's status the rest of the week.

Fantasy Outlook: Cam Newton

Cam Newton signed a one-year deal with the New England Patriots on Sunday evening What should you expect from 2015 MVP quarterback? Quarterback Cam Newton signed a one-year-deal with the New England Patriots worth up to $7.5 million, per league sources who told ESPN's Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter . After suffering several injuries over the last couple seasons, including a Lisfranc injury that cost the quarterback 14 games last year, the Patriots have found their answer under center. It’s important to note that learning the Patriots playbook has been notoriously difficult and given the late timing of this signing I would follow reports out of New England very closely over the coming months to see if Newton is even ready for Week 1. Newton certainly provides an upgrade over 2019 fourth-round pick Jarrett Stidham or journeyman quarterback Bryan Hoyer and provides a small ray of hope to all those fantasy owners with New England pieces. The 2015 MVP finds himself right back i...

Week 7 Picks, Fades & Stacks

Leonard Fournette may have finally reached the $7,000 mark but he's still far too cheap .   My journey into the journalism world began with my love of sports. Writing sports was my passion. It was what I loved to do. My life, in fact. I wanted to be known for my writing. Published everywhere. The biggest papers in the country, the largest websites and featured on the million-viewer sports analysis shows. What I've learned about journalism and media, however, as I've gotten older, is that it's not about your byline or the amount of followers you have on social media, or even the amount of words you're allotted in a publication. Rather, it's about what you do WITH those words. Making those words have real impact. Using your byline in a way that can bring attention to causes and people who aren't million-dollar athletes or NFL superstars.  No. There are things that are bigger than football. And this is one of them. Dakovion Kennedy, a soph...

Week 4 DraftKings Picks, Fades & Stacks

After a pair of tough matchups, it's looking like DeAndre Hopkins might come in with lower ownership than we're used to seeing, which could be a prime spot to jump on him in tournaments.   The Plays Kerryon Johnson, RB, $5,400 (vs. Kansas City) Pick yourself up off the floor. I know recommending Johnson comes as a shock. For as much as I've been a nonbeliever, how can I suggest playing him? Well, DraftKings pricing makes this viable. Well, that and the juicy matchup with Kansas City. This game carries a 54.5 total, with the Lions implied for 24 points. So they're not huge underdogs and implied for some feeble total like the Dolphins and Jets. If the Lions have any chance of winning this game, it seems the best avenue to that would be keeping the ball on the ground, and that means a lot of Johnson. He received 20 carries against an impressive Philadelphia run defense. Granted, he didn't do much with the carries, but he GOT them. And that's what matters. ...
